E. Hala Lectures

 The annual Eduard Hala Lectures have been established in 1999. The lectures are delivered by renowned specialists in topics studied at the Institute.

  • 1st Hála Lecture (on the occasion of his eightieth birthday) - "Remembering Eduard Hala" - was presented on 8 October 1999 by Professor Arnost Reiser from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn NY, USA.
  • 2nd Hála Lecture - "Membrane Fuel Cell Systems: A Challenge for Chemical Engineers" - was presented on 10 November 2000 by Professor Gerhart Eigenberger from University of Stuttgart, Germany.
  • 3rd Hála Lecture - "The Measurement of Symmetry and Chirality: Concept and Applications across Chemistry" was presented on 2 November 2001 by Professor David Avnir from Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel.
  • 4th Hála Lecture - "Macroscopic- and Microscopic-Level Thermodynamics: Partners in Chemical Engineering Progress" was presented on 20 January 2003 by Professor William R. Smith from University of Guelph, Canada.
  • 5th Hála Lecture - "Economy, Ecology and Thermodynamics" was presented on 20 February 2004 by Professor Jakob de Swaan Arons from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
  • 6th Hála Lecture - "Reactivity, Stored Energy, and Dislocations in Solid Reacting Systems" was presented on 6 January 2005 by Professor Vladimír Hlaváček from State University of New York, Buffalo, USA.
  • 7th Hála Lecture - "In the Frame Globalization and Sustainability: Evolution of Chemical and Process Engineering – Progression from Commodities to New Specialties and Active Material Chemistry" was presented on 4 November 2005 by Professor Jean-Claude Charpentier, President of European Federation of Chemical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering LSGC/ENSIC/ INPL, Nancy-University, Nancy, France.
  • 8th Hála Lecture - "Trends in research and preparation of technical intelligence with special regard to chemical engineers (in Slovak) " was presented on 3 November 2006 by Professor Vladimír Báleš from Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia.
  • 9th Hála Lecture - "Development of efficient multiphoton processes and their application to the studies of short-lived intermediates" was presented on 6 August 2007 by Professor Akihiro Ouchi from National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Tsukuba, Japan.
  • 10th Hála Lecture - "“Soft material” surface engineering: from flexible to gradient surfaces" was presented on 10 October 2008 by Professor Jan Genzer from North Carolina State University, Raleigh NC, USA. On this occasion, the bust of Professor E. Hála was unveiled in the entrance hall of the ICPF.
  • 11th Hála Lecture -  "Penta- and Hexacoordinate Silicon Compounds: a Remarkably Flexible Molecular System" was presented on 5 June 2009 by Professor Daniel Kost from Ben Gurion University, Beer-Sheva, Israel.
  • 12th Hála Lecture - "Chemical and Process Engineering Facing the Challenges of Contemporary Civilization" was presented on 2 September 2010 by Professor Ryszard Pohorecki from Warsaw University of Technology, Poland.
  • 13th Hála Lecture - "Reliability of Methods for the Safety Assessment of Chemical Processes" was presented on 15 September 2011 by Professor Ludvík Hub from Safety Consulting Institute in Staad, Switzerland.
  • 14th Hála Lecture - "Energetics today and tomorrow: politics versus common sense of science and technique" was presented on 3 October 2012 by Professor Jaroslav Šesták from Research Centre New Technologies, University of West Bohemia, Plzeň, Czech Republic.
  • 15th Hála Lecture - "Ionic liquids - from structure to application" was presented on 4 November 2013 at 10:30 h by Dr. Christopher Hardacre from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK.
  • 16th Hála Lecture - "Process to separate enantiomers" was presented on 10 November 2014 at 10:30 h by Prof. Andreas Seidel-Morgenstern, Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg, Germany.
  • 17th Hála Lecture - "Novel Membranes for Improved Separations" was presented on 16 April 2015 at 11 h by Prof. Richard D. Noble, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA.
  • 18th Hála Lecture - "Enhancing Sustainable Catalytic Processes with Ionic Liquids" was presented on 8 September 2016 at 10 h by Prof. Paul J. Dyson, Institut des Sciences et Ingénierie Chimiques, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland
  • 19th Hála Lecture - "Atomic Layer Deposition: Principle and Applications" was presented on 19 October 2017 at 10 h by Dr. Ing. Jan Macák, Center of Materials and Nanotechnologies (CEMNAT), Faculty of Chemical Technology, University of Pardubice
  • 20th Hála Lecture - "NMR Metabolomics" - was presented on 14 November 2018 at 10 h by Prof. Claudio Luchinat, Magnetic Resonance Center and Department of Chemistry, University of Florence, Italy
  • 21st Hála Lecture - "Ab initio prediction to phase diagrams: a critical review of the alternative pathways" - was presented on 2 November 2019 at 10 h, Prof. Andreas Klamt, COSMOlogic GmbH, Leverkusen, Germany
